Specification for preparation of materials for printing

1. Electronic materials:

  • We accept electronic materials in PDF 1.4 or PS.
  • Proper PDF files are created by creating a PostScript file and its distilling in Adobe Distiller, and not by direct export from software, because in such a case nonstandard PDFs are created.
  • PDFs may be prepared as "composite" or "separation"; it is important that the entire material is submitted in uniform format.
  • We accept PDFs and PS files, if there is no other possibility we may accept CorelDraw files (PC ver. 12), Freehand files (Mac ver. 10), InDesign (Mac ver. 5), Illustrator (Mac ver. 13), Quark (Mac ver. 5) and TIFF, PSD, EPS files (these three formats must have all the text layers converted to raster images or changed to curves). In case of submitting opened work the page size must be the net size of the work, e.g. if it is an order for visiting cards, then every page must be of the size of such a visiting card and there should be as many pages as visiting cards required.

2. Preparing materials for exposing:

  • bitmap graphics resolution in files should be 300 dpi, 220 dpi is a minimum (pixels can be visible below this value).
  • colour palette: CMYK (Euroscale Fogra standard colour) and possibly Pantone C or U series colours (added as the so called Spot Colours).
  • PDF files should be at all times saved without colour profiles. The profiles in the files can generate ripping errors. Materials containing RGB or Lab colours will be treated as faulty.
  • For composite Rip files “overprint black” is set automatically so in the case of materials where black overprint can cause unwanted effects, information on disabling overprint has to be included in the order.
  • Materials with UV varnishing must be prepared in such a way that an additional colour (“spot”) called “UVvarnish” is present with “overprint” disabled.
  • For materials needing cutting die, prepare the shape of a cutting die with a line ("stroke”), highlight the cutting die with an additional colour (“Spot Colour”), name it “CUTTING DIE” and enable overprint or send it in a separate file.
  • The materials should be centred (namely have equal margins from four sides) and include minimum of 3mm bleed if necessary.
  • All graphic elements and page number must be moved away 3mm from the page edge (apart from the elements which must go over the net page edge).
  • Multipage material should be prepared (if possible) in one PDF or PS file. Page order in such a material should be in accordance with the delivered mock-up (in printed or electronic version, including blank pages).
  • Do not use Polish letters and special characters ( \ / : * ? „” < > |) in file names.

3. Material delivery:

  • We ask for materials to be delivered on CD, DVD, Pen Drive, USB disks, Fire Ware Or our FTP Server
  • After sending the materials to FTP, send an e-mail with information that the upload Has finished and send the order for exposing to: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
  • Page numbering has to be the same as the actual numbering in printing. The numbering in the PDF file also needs to conform with the actual page numbering in the project.
  • The corrected files have to contain “pop” abbreviation in the name. Should more corrections occur, another file versions have to contain “pop2”, “pop3”, “pop4” etc.
  • The client gets imposition printing for approval, the so called Formproof (it is not colour sample). Upon client’s request a PDF file with the sheet(s) image to be approved is sent.
  • The approval is to be sent to: prepress@perfekt.pl with a clear indication of material code and which sheet it concerns.

4. Storing:

  • The originals of the materials transferred by the Clients are stored 14 days following the end of production.
  • The materials (imposition) in electronic form is stored for 2 years following the end of production ( or longer if required).

5. Specification unconformity:

  • files not conforming with the aforementioned specification, being incorrectly prepared can cause delays up to a few workdays!
  • We try to eliminate possible errors or problems arising while cooperating with clients, it is time-consuming, however, therefore certain delays may occur. If it is necessary to adjust your files for production we usually add studio time costs, 90 PLN/h (not less than 45 PLN).

6. Information which should be included in the order:

  • Company information, contact number, work title, type of exposing (CTP, CTF),
  • Page size, number of pages,
  • Number of colours, exposure ruling,
  • Printing plate size, paper size,
  • The length from the plate edge to the Lower cutting line, rotation (side or other),
  • Information on the type of imposition, mock-up, page layout draft and page space etc.
